"F.T.V.'s" Family Transport Vehicles. Did I just coin a new term? Well just close your eyes and try to imagine the ultimate "F.T.V.". The 1999 Ford Windstar may come close to fulfilling your dreams. I am sure that safety will be a primary concern. Built like a nicely disguised vehicle, the Windstar maintains prestigious double 5-star front-cash rating. Windstar is also the first to offer side airbags for front seat riders to protect not only the torso, but the head. An interesting feature your instincts will learn to trust, is an optional Reverse-Sensing System which warns with progressive frequency once objects are approximately six feet from the rear bumper. Another small but wonderful innovation for a minivan is what I call the "spy-mirror". This allows front passengers to survey back seat activity with not actually turning around. Subsequently, the audio system can be used as a positive reinforcement for good behavior. This enables riders in the back to listen to o different audio source. Other user friendly and practical improvements include a second row seat which can be positioned left or right, according to the owner's preference. The most appreciated and anticipated (improvement) is the addition of the new driver's side sliding door which is an option on the Windstar LX and standard on the SE and top of the line SEL models. As an option, both sliders can be remotely operated with the key fob control, as well as from the overhead console. This is standard on the SEL.

Although both engines experience increased torque, the larger engine is worth the extra $1,000. It is the more powerful and preferred 3.8 liter V-6 which by the way, meets California's Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle Status.The base engine offers a 3.0 liter V-6 at 150 hp.

With a respectable list of standard equipment, the 1999 Ford Windstar along with all of it's amenities is like a living room on wheels.
