FORD EXPLORER 1999

The Ford Explorer is considered by many as the "king of the mountain". One doesn't acquire this title without building an excellent reputation. The Ford Explorer has a history of offering it's owners almost anything they wish for. Although, traditionally, sports utility vehicles were the most "off-road" type, they have progressively evolved into stylish everyday means of transportation for thousands. In discussing this vehicle with a group of imaginative car enthusiasts, we found ourselves comparing it to a well refined body builder. However, we made it a point to emphasize it's uniquely attractive and rounded features. But behind any good athlete there is plenty of muscle, and attitude. That's exactly what the Explorer has to offer.

Knowing that I was personally interested in plenty of torque and towing capacity, i think the dealer had intentionally set up the 5.0 liter V-8 215 horsepower all wheel drive with optional trailer tow package. Well guess what, it worked! I was certainly impressed. while driving this monster, i had to remind myself that i was behind the wheel of a sports utility vehicle not a car. This power house engine is offered with the most XLT, Eddie Bower and Limited Trim editions. This is not to take away from probably the most popular 4.0 SOHC V-6 engine that offers almost as much horsepower as the V-8. This engine along with the five speed automatic comes standard on the Eddie Bower and Limited, but is optional in the Mountaineer. Let's not forget the well proven 4.0 liters, 160 horsepower OHV V-6 engine which is offered with the XL and XLT.

Overall, Ford offers various engine and drive system combinations which are appeal ling to a wide range of consumers. Options such as console C/D changer, power moon roof, running boards, two tone rocker paint and side airbags just put the "icing on the cake".

The bottom line is, the 1999 Ford Explorer gets 8 out of a perfect 10 beeps.
